Project Engineer
- Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
As a Project Engineer within the Utilities Project Development division, working primarily with the Potable Water Supply and Treatment line of service, you will provide project engineering and planning/analysis activities. You will develop near-term projects and contribute to the development of long-range plans that will inform future capital investment opportunities and strategies, ensuring current and future regulations and standards are met and reliable water service is provided to Calgarians. Primary duties include:
- Plan and manage infrastructure projects during conceptual design and feasibility analysis.
- Conduct field investigations, modeling analysis, options analysis, life cycle cost analysis, risk assessments, project cost estimates, and engagement with interested parties (including land-related).
- Complete project coordination activities with multiple interested parties, including external.
- Prepare project handover documents from Utility Project Development division to various delivery partners.
- Support the review and preparation of technical documentation including reports and drawings.
- Identify project synergies for multi service outcomes, support the evaluation and prioritization of projects, and assist in the development of long-term infrastructure investment plans.
- Monitor current standards and trends in system performance and processes; incorporate findings from operational feedback loops, key performance indicators and benchmarking data to ready the Utility for a changing climate and environment, and to meet growth demands.
- Build and foster networks and relationships with internal and external technical experts and operations staff, to influence positive outcomes and the adoption of new approaches, technologies and innovations.
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline with a P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - No experience as a professional engineer is required.
- Experience in project management, including managing consultants and familiarity with project reporting and procurement processes, as well as business and financial management experience, are essential.
- Experience working with municipal, provincial, and federal legislations related to the water utility, as well as experience with operations, mobility, and planning, would be considered assets.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS software and water modeling systems would be considered an asset.
- Success in this role requires analytical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, organization and time management skills, along with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively on technical, operational, and business issues with different groups and individuals.
Working Conditions: Office environment with field visits and site inspections as required.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
